Dr. Kerstin de Wit, MBChB, BSc, MD, MRCP, FRCEM, FRCPC
Dr Kerstin de Wit is Associate Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine with cross appointment with the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University. She joined Queen’s University in 2020, having worked in McMaster University 2014 to 2020. Dr de Wit works clinically as an emergency physician and thrombosis physician.
Dr de Wit is the Research Director for Queen’s Department of Emergency Medicine. She is the Chair of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians Research Committee and the Chair of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Scientific Standardization Committee on Diagnosis. She was the recipient of the McMaster Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2017.
Dr de Wit runs a research program focused on emergency diagnosis of venous thromboembolism and intracranial bleeding. Studies led by Dr de Wit include:
- CIHR-funded study to validate Adjust-Unlikely testing for pulmonary embolism in the emergency department
- CIHR-funded study to derive a clinical decision rule to determine the need for brain imaging for anticoagulated head injured patients
- CIHR-funded study to derive a decision rule determining the need for brain imaging in older adults who fall
- CIHR-funded Canadian lead for an international trial comparing reduced-dose thrombolysis to standard care in intermediate-high risk pulmonary embolism
