Combined MD/PhD and MD/Master’s Programs

The program admits a limited number of exceptional students who wish to combine their medical training with advanced training in research. Graduates from our program will be well prepared to pursue postdoctoral or research-intensive residency training, and as fully trained physician-scientists, will contribute to increasing Canada’s capacity in basic, clinical, translational and patient-oriented research.

Graduate Diploma and Professional Master in Medical Sciences

These programs are offered through a partnership between the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, Postgraduate Medical Education, and Undergraduate Medical Education. They are designed to enhance students’ research and clinical skills to align with the requirements of the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS) process and to promote research and scholarship activities in future physicians. The main goals of the programs are to engage students to explore current issues in medical sciences and to enhance students’ clinical skills in the context of the Canadian healthcare system.

Postgraduate Medical Education

Postgraduate Medical Education at Queen’s University offers prospective residents the opportunity to train in one of Canada’s premier centres for medical research and teaching. The University offers thirty-three postgraduate residency programs accredited by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Clinician Investigator Program (CIP)

The Queen’s University Clinician Investigator Program (CIP) is an intensive, research-based postgraduate medical education program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). It aims to develop the next generation of Clinician Scientist research leaders who will have the skill sets to achieve broadbased excellence not only in research but also as clinicians, supervisors/mentors, teachers and academics in general.

Regional Education

Regional Education in the School of Medicine at Queen’s University works collaboratively with other Ontario medical schools and regional providers to assist Ontario Undergraduate and Postgraduate medical learners doing elective rotations in regional sites across Ontario. Regional Education provides accommodation, travel reimbursement, pagers, phones and hi-speed Internet connection for clerks and residents while they are completing mandatory rotations outside of Kingston in Southeastern Ontario.

Clinical Teaching Centre (CTC) (*HIDDEN)

The Clinical Teaching Centre (CTC), located on the Ground floor of the School of Medicine Building, is the primary location for the teaching of physical examination skills, conducting standardized patient examinations, and administering OSCEs. The CTC has 20 examination rooms equipped and configured to simulate an outpatient clinic. Each room has a one-way glass and access to an observation area, audio-visual capabilities for remote viewing and recording, plus a fully wireless environment.
