Accreditation Overview: CanRAC, CanERA, or CanAMS?

CanRAC stands for the Canadian Residency Accreditation Consortium and is comprised of the three residency education accrediting colleges in Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ). Through this partnership, a new framework of standards was developed and officially launched in 2019 called CanERA – Canadian Excellence in Residency Accreditation.

The specific accreditation standards that are currently in effect, and to which our institution and programs are currently held accountable, can be found here:

To support and help facilitate the new system of residency and accreditation standards a digital Accreditation Management System (AMS) was developed, called “CanAMS”.
