Shira Gertsman was born in Ottawa, Ontario. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at University of Ottawa, graduating with the University Gold Medal in Science and the Governor General’s Silver Academic Medal. She then completed medical school at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She is now doing her residency training in Psychiatry at Queen’s University.
Shira’s research background has spanned a variety of topics including pediatric consent, medical education, and healthcare economics. She is now pursuing a Master of Science in Neuroscience at Queen’s University. Her current research is focused on sexual and reproductive mental health across the lifespan. Ongoing projects focus on bipolar disorder in the perinatal period, maternal experiences of ADHD management during pregnancy, and sexual dysfunction following SSRI use.
