Position Sense (proprioception)

Another test of proprioception is the Romberg test

The player will show in this paragraph

• It is considered positive only if the patient loses balance with his/her eyes closed (if he/she is also unsteady with eyes open then it is likely due to a cerebellar problem)
• NOTE: Ensure that you stand near the patient during this test in case he/she falls over
• Dr Blumenfeld pulls back on the patient during the test, which isn’t really part of the originally described Romberg test.
