1. Queen's Course on Research Ethics (CORE)

This self-paced course is a media-rich learning experience that features interactive exercises and multi-disciplinary examples. CORE (Course on Research Ethics) consists of eight modules ranging from Core Principles to REB Review. The program allows you to stop at any time and resume later. Once you have completed all ten units, you will receive a certificate to prove that you have completed the CORE program, a copy of which needs to be sent (email, fax or mail) to the CIP office.

2. CITI-Canada Good Clinical Practices (GCP) education program:

Anyone working with human research subjects or using their personal health information data for research must sign up with CITI Canada and complete the free GCP online training program.
Completion of the course can be done at your own pace. There are 12 modules in total to complete. Each module takes ~20-30 minutes and there is a quiz at the end of each module. You will need to receive a mark of 80% in each module to complete the program. Once you have completed the program, you will receive notification and a link to a certificate for your records. A copy of the certificate needs to be sent to the CIP office.

3.    Canadian Council on Animal Care: Good Animal Practice in Science Training Modules (Core Stream) for those CIP trainees involved with research using animals or animal tissues.
These modules meet the Queen’s University Animal Care Committee’s requirements as a user training program. The four training modules include Ethics in Animal Experimentation, Guidelines, legislation and regulations, Occupational health and safety and Three Rs of humane animal experimentation. Proof of completion of the interactive quizzes related to the content of the CCAC training modules is required and must be sent to the CIP office.

4.    WHMIS Training
The CIP, in keeping with Queen’s University policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, requires all CIP trainees to have full WHMIS training and to complete the on-line refresher quiz on an annual basis. A copy of the certification must be provided to the CIP office

#1, 2 and 4 must be completed prior to starting your research. #3 is only required for those trainees undertaking basic biomedical research involving animals or animal tissues.
