Summer 2022 Clinical Experience

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is offering a funded summer clinical experience during the months of June, July and August (minimum 4, maximum 8 weeks). This immersive experience is typically reserved for a Queen’s University second year medical student, however first year medical students may also be considered.

The student will gain experience in rehabilitation programs, including: acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputee, stroke and general musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

• Under the supervision of each of the seven attending Physiatrists, the student will attend ambulatory clinics in the various areas of rehabilitation, physical medicine and electromyography.

• The student will also have an opportunity to participate in inpatient rounds with the interdisciplinary team and follow inpatients throughout their rehabilitation stay.

• In addition to learning about the practice of PM&R, there will be ample opportunity to improve neuromusculoskeletal clinical skills.

The student is expected to make a presentation on a clinical topic to the members of the department at the end of their employment, and will be encouraged to work on a submission to the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation medical student essay contest: http://www.capmr.ca/2-uncategorised/303-medical-student-essay-contest.
