The Benefits of Competency-Based Medical Education
MD Program @ Queen's
The School of Medicine offers a four-year program leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine. This program must meet all the requirements for accreditation and prepare graduates for postgraduate training leading to licensure and certification. Its special strengths are related to the opportunities for close, personal interactions between students and faculty members and for students to obtain particularly relevant, extensive, hands-on clinical experience under supervision, especially in ambulatory settings. There is a great potential for students to benefit from the integration of the clinical and basic sciences in the curriculum and from increased collaboration in education among the clinical disciplines.
Our Student Affairs team is there to support the personal and professional growth of medical students throughout the four years of medical school at Queen's University by providing advocacy and advice in the areas of Academics, Careers and Wellness.
This QMED Tool is intended as a quick reference for medical students at Queen’s University who find themselves in an emergency or crisis situation or needing quick reference/guidance.
The Wellness Advisors provide confidential support with any physical, personal or emotional struggles and facilitate access to resources needed. All medical students are also welcome to book an appointment with our personal counsellor in the School of Medicine.
Career Advisors provide assistance with medical career planning.
The Academic Advisors offer guidance and assistance towards academic success.
At Queen's, the four year Undergraduate Medical Program is designed to provide a variety of innovative learning opportunities that will prepare our students to be highly desired postgraduate trainees and outstanding practicing physicians. Our program values and promotes close professional interaction between students and faculty members, and provides extensive hands-on clinical experience under supervision, particularly in ambulatory settings . Our medical culture encourages participation and offers opportunities for students to engage in the administration development and evaluation of our medical curriculum and governance structures. Our graduates are highly successful in obtaining postgraduate training sites and are known to be committed and enthusiastic citizens of their profession and their communities.
