Low Blood Pressure

Low Blood Pressure or Hypotension

  • Premature infants often have low blood pressure immediately following birth, often caused by blood loss during delivery, fluid loss after birth, infection, or medications administered to the mother before birth.
  • Treatment may include:
    • Medications to increase blood pressure
    • Administering extra fluid for the infant
    • A blood transfusion
