Common Pediatric MSK Concerns

Answer

The scoliosis is small, however the patient has not yet entered her rapid adolescent growth spurt. It will be important to follow this patient regularly (every 4-6 months) to identify rapid curve progression. A radiologic bone age (hand and wrist xray) may help to estimate how many years of growth remain. In general, girls grow for 18-24 months following their menarche and so one would expect this girl to require follow-up for at least two years.
