Dislocation of the radial head from the annular ligament (pulled elbow)

Also known as "Nursemaid's Elbow" or "Pulled Elbow".
This is a very common injury in children aged 1-4 years. The typical mechanism of injury involves the child being held by the hand and suddenly falling or being pulled upward.
Radiographs are not indicated, and if done, are normal.
Treatment consists of supinating the forearm while extending the elbow. A click or a snap is often felt as the ligament snaps back into place.
