Dislocation of the radial head from the annular ligament (pulled elbow)

  • Also known as "Nursemaid's Elbow" or "Pulled Elbow".
  • This is a very common injury in children aged 1-4 years. The typical mechanism of injury involves the child being held by the hand and suddenly falling or being pulled upward.
  • Radiographs are not indicated, and if done, are normal.
  • Treatment consists of supinating the forearm while extending the elbow. A click or a snap is often felt as the ligament snaps back into place.
