Summer 2019 Clinical Experience
The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is offering a funded summer clinical experience during the months of June, July and August (minimum 4, maximum 8 weeks). This amazing experience is typically reserved for a Queen’s University second year medical student, however first year medical students may also be considered.
The student will gain experience in the departmental rehabilitation programs, including: acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputee, stroke and general musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Under the supervision of each of the seven attending Physiatrists, the student will attend ambulatory clinics in the various areas of rehabilitation, physical medicine and electromyography.
The student will also have an opportunity to participate in inpatient rounds with the interdisciplinary team, and follow an inpatient throughout their rehabilitation stay.
In addition to learning about the practice of PM&R, there will be the opportunity to improve neuromusculoskeletal clinical skills.
The student is expected to make a presentation on a clinical topic to the members of the department, and will be encouraged to work on a submission to the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation medical student essay contest: http://www.capmr.ca/2-uncategorised/303-medical-student-essay-contest.

The Shirley Roberts Gerontology Studentship shall be used towards funding two studentships for Queen's medical students in the summer immediately after their first or second year of medical school, to undertake a clinical placement with a geriatrician, studying geriatric medicine and care of the elderly.

The Museum of Health Care is accepting proposals for a resident 16-week summer research fellowship (May-September), which will investigate a topic relevant to the history of health and health care. The fellow will communicate the results of their research by posting updates on a biweekly blog, producing a scholarly manuscript that will become part of the Museum’s collection, and giving a public lecture in the fall.
