Candidates offered admission must have a minimum of 15 full credits (30 half credits) prior to registering. You may apply for admission between your second and third year of undergraduate work if you believe you will have the required credits by the end of your third year. If you receive an offer based on less than the full credit requirements, it will be conditional on supplying proof that you have completed the remaining number.
Courses taken during the summer or while a part time student will be included in the calculation of the cumulative GPA. These courses will not be included in the calculation of the GPA based on the most recent to two full time years, if this calculation is necessary.
Any year in which you have completed a minimum of 3 courses in each academic semester will be considered full time. You do not have to carry a full course load to be considered full time.
There are no prerequisite courses for entering medical school.
We do not recommend any particular course or degree program since no preference is given to applicants who have studied in a particular university program. Applicants are encouraged to consider all of the undergraduate programs available to them and to embark on the course of study in which they have the greatest interest and that would prepare them for an alternate career should they not gain a place in medicine.
If a student studies abroad and the grades are not reported on their home university transcript a WES evaluation is required.
If grades are reported back to the home university with course equivalents, weights or grades a WES evaluation is required.
All Queen's applications are required to complete the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Information regarding the test can be found on the MCAT site.
The MCAT and GPA evaluation scores fluctuate each year depending on the overall marks of our pool of applicants. Therefore, we cannot predict what the cuts will be from year to year.
Applicants are assessed in sequential steps. The first steps are based on academic requirements - the GPA and MCAT scores. Applicants who successfully make these cuts are invited for an interview and their academic marks are no longer considered in the admission process. Those applicants are then assessed based on personal experiences and personal characteristics through an interview.
Invited candidates are assessed to determine if their personalities and experiences meet certain criteria. This assessment is made based on life experiences, both in the written form and during an interview. No one set of activities is more appropriate than others.
Applicants are expected to choose appropriate referees to complete the Confidential Assessment Forms. Referees should have extensive personal knowledge of the applicant and be in a position to reasonably make statements concerning the applicant's character, personal qualities and academic capabilities. It is recognized that referees may not be in a position to evaluate all of the characteristics requested; however, applicants should ensure that, in choosing their three referees, the subject areas are covered. At least one referee should be a non-academic/character referee. Please note: the Admissions Committee is unable to review and evaluate letters of reference that are not written in english.
The Admissions Committee has allocated up to 4 positions for Indigenous students. The Admissions Committee has no other quotas.
