These Courses are normally offered every Spring and Fall

There are also one day refresher certification courses offered on the second day of each full two day course. These sessions are normally offered every spring and fall. The Queen's ACLS instructors are emergency medicine resident physicians, advanced care paramedics, and emergency or cardiac care nurses.

The two day Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider course enables health-care professionals to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. The course materials are scenario-based, and a team approach is used to teach emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest, from the early minutes through patient stabilization and/or the transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital. There are also one day refresher certification courses offered on the first day of each full two day course. These sessions are normally offered every spring and fall. All registrants must have a current Heart & Stroke BLS certificate and will need to email a copy prior to the course or will not be allowed to participate. We do offer BLS courses should you need to re-certify. PALS certification is valid for 2 years.
- TNCC
The two day Trauma Nursing Core Course is designed by nurses for nurses. The intent of this course is to provide nurses with basic knowledge and a standardized approach for the care of trauma patients. It is intended to enhance cognitive skills, sharpen technical skills and provide a foundation for future learning. Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to perform rapid, initial assessment of the trauma patient. Participants will be able to identify injuries, institute appropriate life-saving interventions, assess patients’ responses to resuscitation and communicate with other team members.
- BLS Renewal Course
This fast-paced course, as mandated by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, allows the experienced BLS provider (those who are confident in their BLS skills through regular use in their work in the ED, CCU, ICU on code team, or paramedics and first responders) the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge through written and skills assessment in a concentrated program. Successful completion of this two hour 15 minute course (approximate time) allows students to renew their BLS course completion card. BLS certification must be current and is mandatory to register and attend all ACLS and PALS courses. BLS certification is valid for 1 year.
