.elp
eXe content packages are saved as .elp (e-learning packages) which is the editable eXe format. .elp files are similar to zip files and all embedded images and files are included in the packages as opposed to being externally linked. This means that you can move your .elp file and all of the images and files you have linked will be moved with it.
Web Site
Your e-learning package can be exported as a website as either a self-contained folder or a zip file. The Self-contained Folder option creates a folder of HTML pages, images, and style sheets required to publish the content package on the web. Zip File creates a zip file of all module content as a website for easy delivery to a Webmaster.
- Previewing an e-learning module
To preview your module:
- Click File and then Export.
- From the pop-out list, select Web Site and then Self-contained Folder.
- Choose a location for the folder to be saved.
- Click Choose.
Your module will open in Firefox, allowing you to preview all the pages and features. If you want to view your module after you have closed the window, go to the self-contained folder and double-click index.html.
- Installing the Queen's School of Medicine template
The Queen's School of Medicine template was designed to maintain consistency amongst e-learning modules and show university association. It is advised that you use this template for all modules developed for the School Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences. To install the template:
- Download the "medtech-som.zip" template file here.
- Extract the "medtech-som.zip" file into a new folder called "medtech-som".
- For Windows and Linux:
- Move the "medtech-som" file to the folder "C:\program files\exe\style".
For Mac:
- In the Applications folder, right click exe.app.
- Select Show Package Contents.
- Go to Contents>Resources>exe>style and copy the "medtech-som" folder into this directory.
- Open up the eXe editor and from the Styles menu, select the "Medtech-som" style.
- Download the desired header image:
- Above the main content authoring area, click the Properties tab and then click the Package tab.
- In the Header Background section, click the Load Image button.
- Select the image you downloaded and click Apply. Return to the authoring area by clicking on the Authoring tab.
- Creating and editing a page
To create/edit a page:
- In the page options, click Add Page. By default, the page will be titled with its position in the hierarchy.
- To rename a page, select the page and, in the page options, click Rename. Enter the new name in the dialog box and click OK.
- To delete a page, select the page and, in the page options, click Delete. Confirm that this is the page you want to delete and click OK.
Note that deleting a parent page also deletes all child pages.
- Organizing pages
Use the Outline Pane to organize the hierarchy and order of your pages.
To arrange pages:
- Use the up and down elbow-arrows to promote and demote nodes in the hierarchy.
The Home Page is at the top level in the hierarchy and is the only page that can be accessed at this level. Demoted nodes become the child of the node directly above.
- Use the up and down arrowheads to reorder the nodes within a level.
