Residency Program Rotation Structure
PGY-1
- Junior Obstetrics (4 blocks)
For this rotation you will be paired with a Senior OB Resident. The expectation is that by the end of this rotation you will be able to do a C-section as primary surgeon with a skilled assistant.
- Ambulatory clinics (2)
A broad general experience in ambulatory obstetrics and gynaecology practice.
- Anesthesia (1) / Neonatology (1) / Internal Medicine (2) / Emergency Medicine (1) / General Surgery (1)
These "off service" rotations provide broad general experience in preparation for obtaining the qualification of Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC).
PGY-2
- Junior Gynaecology (4 blocks)
For this rotation you will be paired with the Chief Resident. You will work in ER triage, the operating room, wards and clinics. The expectation is that by the end of this rotation you will be able to do a TAH & BSO as primary surgeon with a skilled assistant.
- Junior Gynecologic Oncology (3)
For this rotation you will be paired with the Senior Gynecologic Oncology Resident. You will work in the OR, in the Regional Cancer Clinic, and provide care, including chemotherapy and palliative care, to patients.
- Community Ob/Gyn (2)
In Brockville, a primary care community hospital 45 minutes from Kingston. Lodging is provided

PGY-3
- Maternal Fetal Medicine (4 blocks)
- Urogynaecology (4)
- Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (4)
PGY-3 is a subspecialty year where you will gain intermediate-level exposure to general and subspecialty practice. This year will provide broad experience and help in career planning.
PGY-4
- Senior Obstetrics (4 blocks)
This rotation provides consolidated OB experience at the senior level.
You will also have a teaching and mentoring role for your Junior resident.
- Community OB/GYN (4)
- Gynaecologic Oncology (4)
In this rotation you will gain experience in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy and palliation for gynecologic oncology patients. You will participate in complicated inpatient care. You will also have a teaching and mentoring role for your Junior resident.
PGY-5
- Senior (Chief) Gynaecology (4 blocks)
This rotation provides consolidated gynecologic experience at the senior level. You will also have teaching, mentoring and administrative roles.
- Electives (4)
Electives in PGY-5 allow for late flexibility, as well as an opportunity for new or reinforced experience, at a time where fellowship or practice planning is key. You will also have more time to study for upcoming exams.
