Try to determine the type of anemia first, then the likely cause, and
finally
the clinical diagnosis. Thus:
1. Decide what type of anemia is present from the MCV
2. Identify the cause for the anemia from the blood count and any additional laboratory investigations you choose
3. Go to the clinical list and find the answers only to those clinical questions which are relevant to the case
