(H&E 59) Hyaline cartilage is present in the articular surface of joints and in the epiphyseal plate of long bones. Chondrocytes are present in lacunae in groups of two or four. A thin layer of connective tissue covers the hyaline cartilage; this is called perichondrium. This type of cartilage is different from the elastic cartilage by the lack of fibrous tissue (i.e. elastic fibres) in the matrix. |
