LISC-M-BSCH (B.Sc.H. Major Life Sciences)
LIFE SCIENCES MAJOR WAS INTRODUCED IN THE FALL OF 2007:
Under SOLUS, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Major in Life Sciences is now the LISC-M-BSH. This plan is recommended to students who wish to pursue a wider range of study than is possible with the LISC-P-BSH plan in Life Sciences. Access to specialized courses at the 400 level may be limited, with priority given to students in the BSCH-P-LISC plan.
The MAJOR Consists of 72.0 core units as described below and 48.0 elective units to total 120 units.
YEAR 1
BIOL 102/3.0 and
BIOL 103/3.0;
CHEM 112/6.0;
MATH 122/6.0 (or
MATH 121/6.0);
PHYS 107/6.0 or
PHYS 106/6.0 or
PHYS 104/6.0 or PHYS 117/6.0; and 6.0 elective unit(s).
YEAR 2
BIOL 205/3.0;
CHEM 281/3.0 and
CHEM 282/3.0;
MICR 221/3.0;
PHGY 214/6.0 or
PHGY 212/6.0; 12.0 elective units.
30.0 basic medical science options are required: 6.0 units may be at the 100 level; 6.0 units may be at the 200 level, 15.0 units must be at the 300 level or above, and 3.0 units must be at the 400 level. Of these, 15.0 units may be from Biology and Psychology courses. Basic medical science options include courses from the Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Community Health and Epidemiology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology and Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology and Physiology, as well as CANC-, CRSS-, DDHT-, LISC- and NSCI-coded courses.
In accordance with
Academic Regulation 4b, students in the BSCH LISC SSP degree will be given priority for all 499 courses (
ANAT 499/9.0,
CANC 499/9.0,
EPID 499/9.0,
NSCI 499/9.0,
PATH 499/9.0, PGHY 499/9.0,
PHAR 499/9.0, and
MICR 499/9.0). Permission to take any of these courses must be approved by the Associate Dean (Life Sciences and Biochemistry).
YEAR 3: No core courses.
YEAR 4: No core courses.
30.0 basic medical science option units are required:
6.0 units may be at the 100 level or above;
6.0 units may be at the 200 level or above;
15.0 units must be at the 300 level or above; and
3.0 unit must be at the 400 level.
Of these, 15.0 units can be from approved Biology and Psychology courses.
