Ms. Michelle Emond, Program Officer (Students) a representative from Fulbright Canada provided an information session about the Fulbright Canada opportunities.

SUMMER EXCHANGE INFORMATION:

As you may know, Queen’s students have the opportunity to apply for exchange opportunities from a suite of consortial student exchange programs that receive funding from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).  These exchanges are available to undergraduate and graduate students.  They are all part of the Ontario Universities International (http://ouinternational.ca/) program and the partner universities are in China, France, Germany and India.

In addition to the traditional exchange program, some of the OUI programs are also offering Summer Research Programs for graduate students (OBW, ORA and OJS) and undergraduate students (OBW and OJS only). We wanted to bring these programs to your attention and hope that you will pass along the information to your students and faculty.   We are still learning about how these research programs work but my understanding is that the student has to be nominated by a Queen’s professor who has academic contacts with the university researcher in their own discipline at one of the universities in the consortia.  I believe that there is some flexibility if there is not a previous connection between two researchers where the OUI program can try to find one for the student but preference is given to applicants who have a host professor.

The attached documents provide more detailed information about the OBW (Germany) and ORA (France) summer research program.   As details about in the OJS Summer Research Program in China are not yet available, but you could contact the OJS Academic Director, Dr. David Wood at dmwood@uwaterloo.ca directly.
