Research interests
My clinical and research interests have been involved with antireflux surgery. Initially the physiologic mechanisms by which antireflux surgery worked and now the outcomes of laparoscopic techniques are my area of expertise. I also see a large number of patients with esophageal cancer. This has resulted in an interest in combined modality treatments with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery for esophageal cancer. A prospective study is presently underway to evaluate this. Most recently I am developing, with others, a computer model for efficient resource allocation for operating room time and other scarce resources such as beds, special care beds, money and operative educational requirements for a general surgery training program.
