Awards

There are several different award options available to students.  A list of awards, including scholarships and bursaries, are available on the Queen's awards page.  All other awards (scholarships, bursaries, medals, etc.) will be listed on this page when they become available.

The Nycomed Scholarship in Family Medicine 

Established in February 2006 by ALTANA Pharma Inc (now Nycomed), and awarded to a fourth year medical student, specializing in Family Medicine. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the student's potential to exemplify the four principles of family medicine (skilled clinician, a resource to the community, positive patient-physician relationships, and a resource to the practice population) and their leadership in Family Medicine during undergraduate training

An essay (max 500 words) must be submitted by the interested candidates. The essay should describe the applicant's interest in Family Medicine and potential to practice the ideal characteristics of a Family Physician - skilled clinician, resource to the community, positive patient-physician relationships, and a resource to the practice population. In addition, the essay should include a description of the candidate's leadership ability as evidenced by meaningful activity within a community-based organization in which the student has shown initiative. Selection will be made by the Queen's Family Medicine Undergraduate Education Committee in consultation with the Head of the Department. Students must submit a 500 word essay by October 7th, 2011.

Value: $5,000 plus reimbursement for travel and accommodation at the Ontario College of Family Physician's Annual Scientific Assembly.
