Countdown to Postgraduate Accreditation - Two Weeks to Go!

The Queen’s Accreditation Schedule

When the survey teams arrive in Kingston in two weeks, they will be prepared to conduct comprehensive reviews of every postgraduate residency program at Queen’s over a three day period.  This complex schedule, the result of months of planning and preparation, will see as many as eleven programs reviewed each day.  In addition, our affiliated teaching hospitals and distributed learning sites will be visited including Kingston General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, Providence Care, Lakeridge Health, and the Family Medicine sites in Belleville and Peterborough.

The accreditation events begin on Sunday, October 2 with a reception for members of the accreditation teams, Program Directors, Department Heads, Division Chairs, and hospital representatives.  Hosted at the new medical school building, the reception will allow Queen’s faculty to greet the members of the CFPC and RCPSC accreditation teams.   They will be formally welcomed to Queen’s University by Dr. Richard Reznick, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Lewis Tomalty, Vice Dean – Medical Education, and Dr. Ross Walker, Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

When the reviews of our postgraduate programs begin on Monday, some will take a day to complete while the reviews of our larger programs will be spread out over a number of days.  Family Medicine, the largest residency program at Queen’s, has the most detailed schedule.  A total of eleven meetings and presentations will be conducted on that day alone.  The following day will include visits to Belleville and Peterborough in addition to reviews of the Enhanced Skills and Palliative Medicine programs.  On Wednesday, October 3, the Kingston & 1000 Islands program will be reviewed by three separate survey teams, each with a separate schedule.  A copy of the CFPC review schedule can be found here.

All specialty programs have similar review schedules which will include meetings with the following individuals or groups:  Program Directors, Department/Division Chairs, Residents, Program Administrators, Faculty/Teaching Staff, and Residency Program Committees.  Larger programs will be reviewed over more than one day and a copy of the RCPSC review schedule can be found here.

The accreditation visit will conclude with a final exit meeting on Thursday, October 6th.   If you have any questions or would like to see a detailed schedule for your program, please contact the Program Assistant in your department.
