Purpose :
The Cecil Reid Patience Fellowship was established through a gift received from the estate of Dr. Cecil Reid Patience Meds '28. The gift was made to establish a capital fund, the interest from which may fund a fellowship for medical graduates to provide training in research.
Fund Guidelines :
Funds will be disbursed consistent with the following guidelines:
1. Funds will be used for a resident completing training from the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Queen's University.
2. Funds will be allocated for one year of postgraduate work.
3. In the event that there is more than one eligible applicant, preference will be awarded to candidates proposing research in the field of geriatrics or related areas of medicine.
4. Recommendation of the fellowship recipient will be made by the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education in conjunction with the Postgraduate Medical Education Awards Committee in consultation with the Vice Dean Research.
5. Funds will be used at the discretion of the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Fund Disbursement:
Funds will be allocated to support the professional development of an individual who demonstrates the capacity for leadership as a clinical investigator in the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. The funds will vary with previous experience and in keeping with the availability of resources. The holder of the Fellowship shall pursue postgraduate work in a basic science or clinical department of the Faculty of Health Sciences at this University or in a related discipline at another University.
Application for the Fellowship should be made by letter to the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences by no later than the 1st of December each year. The applicant must provide information regarding the work that he/she plans to pursue as well as its applicability and relevance to the School of Medicine. The Head of the Department concerned must provide a letter of support with the application.
