Welcome to the Department of Medicine, Queen’s University and the Southeastern Ontario Health Sciences Centre. The Department is proud to be a part of one of the most historic medical faculties in Canada. Queen’s University is consistently a top ranked university in Canada. The clinical programs in Medicine occur in three teaching hospitals in Kingston. One of these (Kingston General Hospital) has been ranked as one of the best hospitals in North America. We are particularly proud of our Core Training Program in Medicine and have a number of very strong subspecialty programs which enjoy high visibility and impressive research productivity. The medical environment at Queen’s is unique in North America. We enjoy a stable population base with integrated programs at the academic centre, in addition to an evolving health network alliance for the region. Such arrangements permit close productive relationships between staff and postgraduate students and provide a working model of an integrated, interdependent health care system. Furthermore, the Alternative Funding Plan at this Centre permits a unique model of health care in Canada. Students and housestaff are exposed to the benefits of this arrangement, including appropriate needs-based medical care for patients. While even we at Queen’s may have some challenging days, these are offset by the splendor of Kingston, one of the most historic cities in Canada, with the immense beauty of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence/Thousand Islands. We welcome your visit or enquiry.
Richard Reznick has been granted an honourary fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). This fellowship is the highest honour the college can give and only a few are awarded each year.
“I have been extremely privileged over the years to have interacted with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland,” says Dr. Reznick, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.” We have exchanged views, shared information, and collaborated on many issues. To be recognized by the college with an honorary fellowship is a great honour that is a highlight of my professional career.”
The Royal College of Surgeons is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving human health through education, research and service. Founded in 1784, originally to train surgeons, today it provides education and training in the healthcare professions at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
