Carpal Bones

A Self-Directed Learning Module

Introduction

Ligamentous injuries of the wrist and carpal bone fractures are a relatively common problem encountered in the Emergency Department (ED). Failure to recognize and appropriately manage these injuries can lead to chronic pain and instability of the wrist joint. Unfortunately, because of the complexity of wrist anatomy, these injuries can be easily missed on the ED radiograph. Detection of these injuries requires a careful and systematic approach to the radiographs.
