Video Challenge for Applicants

Published Tue Feb 9th 2016

The Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) is excited to announce the launch of the 2016 Match Moments Video Challenge and we would once again like to ask for your organization’s assistance promoting this contest to your membership.

Match Day for the R-1 Main Residency Match will take place on March 2, 2016. As you know, for medical students this day is the culmination of years of hard work and tough decisions. CaRMS’ annual Match Moments Video Challengeinvites students to celebrate this important milestone by recording and sharing their “match moment” with the world for a chance to win up to $500.

With this year’s Match Moments Video Challenge, we’d also like to recognize that success on Match Day means different things to different people. Every year about 60 per cent of Canadian applicants match to their top program choice, 80 per cent match to one of their top three choices, and more than 90 per cent match to their first choice discipline. These are the obvious successes. However, regardless of where their matched program falls on their rank order list—high, low or somewhere in the middle—all matched applicants are embarking on the next step in an exciting, rewarding career. Some match in their hometown, some in a place they’ve always wanted to call home, and some in a place they never thought they’d find themselves. Some get into the discipline they dreamed of, and some match to something unexpected that opens up a whole new world of opportunity. These are all “match moments” worth celebrating!
